Trip to Hawaii a Sweet Dream Come True for Winner of Friendly's Sundae Contest


WILBRAHAM, Mass (April 11, 2007) - Jessica Mackeigan of Avon Lake, Ohio, created a sophisticated version of a frozen turtle to win the grand prize in the adult category of Friendly's "Create the Next Favorite" sundae contest.

Her "Coffeehouse Turtle Sundae" topped more than 39,000 other entries from those 18 years or older who hoped that their recipe for the perfect ice cream sundae would win the vacation of their dreams.

As a result, java-loving Jessica, her husband and two friends will travel to Hawaii for an exotic vacation of volcanoes, waterfalls, sunsets, and stargazing.

Jessica's prize-winning caramel concoction, which will be featured on Friendly's menus between April 16 and May 27, is made with Friendly's Nuts over Carame, Forbidden Chocolate, and Vienna Mocha Chunk ice creams, topped with steamy hot fudge, a drizzle of caramel, and a healthy sprinkle of walnuts.

A first-year law student who admits to loving coffee as well as ice cream, Jessica said, "I went with my gut" in creating the winning sundae. She had 14 grand prize vacations to choose from, but Hawaii stood out. "It's not every day you win something like that!" she noted. "Hawaii is really a dream vacation, a place not many people ever get to go."

The online contest that ended last fall invited entrants to choose from among 21 Friendly's ice cream flavors, two wet toppings, and two dry toppings plus an ingredient of their own choice and then to name their special sundae. A panel of Friendly's ice cream experts judged the sundaes based on originality and - definitely - taste.

"Jessica's Coffeehouse Turtle Sundae exemplified the creativity, imagination and passion for delicious taste that Friendly's is all about," said Andre Fuehr, vice president, research and development at Friendly's. "We were delighted to receive so many spectacular sundae recipes from Friendly's fans and ice cream lovers. It wasn't easy to make our decision, but it was certainly a delicious job!"
