10-Year-Old Peanut Butter Lover Wins Trip to Hawaii in Friendly's Sundae Contest

WILBRAHAM, Mass (April 11, 2007) - Ten-year-old Molly Ruebel of Petersburg, N.Y., turned her passion for peanut butter into a once-in-a-lifetime trip for her family by winning the grand prize in the kids category of Friendly Ice Cream's "Create the Next Favorite" sundae contest.

Molly's "Peanut-butterpan Sundae" was rated "extra yummy" among 15,500 entries from those 17 and younger who hoped that their recipe for the perfect ice cream sundae would make their vacation dreams come true.

As a result, Molly, her two younger brothers, and her parents, Gretchen and Henry Ruebel, will travel to Hawaii for an exotic vacation of volcanoes, waterfalls, sunsets, and stargazing.

Molly's prize-winning caramel concoction, which will be featured on Friendly's menus between April 16 and May 27, is made with Friendly's Hunka Chunka PB Fudge^{™}, Chocolate Almond Chip and Forbidden Chocolate ^® ice creams, dripping with hot fudge and peanut butter toppings and finished with Reese's^® Peanut Butter Cups and crushed Heath^® bars.

Molly and about 35 members of her extended family plan to celebrate the April 16 debut of her "Peanut-butterpan Sundae" with a trip to the Bennington, VT, Friendly's. In honor of their upcoming vacation, they plan to bring leis as well as hearty appetites.

Peanut butter is a special treat for the fifth-grader, who doesn't eat it at home because one of her brothers is allergic to it. Her mother notes that Molly came up with her winning idea without a smidgeon of a hint from anyone else. "She did it all on her own on a hot summer day," said Gretchen Ruebel. "She's very creative and always has projects going all over the house."

The online contest that ended last fall invited entrants to choose from among 21 Friendly's ice cream flavors, two wet toppings, and two dry toppings plus an ingredient of their own choice and then to name their special sundae. The winners had a choice of 14 grand prize vacations. A panel of Friendly's ice cream experts judged the sundaes based on originality and - definitely - taste.

"Molly's sundae will please anyone who loves peanut butter and chocolate, whether they're kids or just kids at heart. It's imaginative, fun, and just plain delicious," said Andre Fuehr, vice president, research and development at Friendly's. "We were delighted to receive so many spectacular sundae recipes from Friendly's fans and ice cream lovers. It wasn't easy to make our decision, but it was certainly a sweet job!"
